FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies announced the grand opening of newly expanded production facility at the Hillerød campus

  • FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies has expanded its Hillerød facility, doubling bioreactor capacity and establishing Europe’s largest end-to-end biopharmaceutical manufacturing site.
  • The site now employs approximately 1,800 people, a significant increase from 750 in 2019, with employees representing over 70 nationalities.

FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies, a global contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has completed its first expansion at its Hillerød, Denmark site. This project doubles its mammalian cell culture capacity, increasing the number of bioreactors from six to twelve and establishing the facility as Europe’s largest end-to-end biopharmaceutical manufacturing site.

The expansion reflects the company’s strategy to support the global biopharmaceutical industry with state-of-the-art production capabilities. Christian Houborg, Senior Vice President and Site Head, commented, “Our activities in Hillerød reflect our commitment to being the leading contract manufacturer globally, or a Partner for Life, as we call it, by supporting our clients and their patients worldwide.”

The Hillerød site, acquired in 2019, has seen exponential growth, expanding from 750 employees to approximately 1,800 today, with 20 percent of the workforce coming from abroad. The facility’s continued development aligns with broader growth in Denmark’s life science sector, a success story highlighted by Brian Mikkelsen, CEO of Dansk Erhverv.

“This expansion underscores that the Danish life science sector is on a strong trajectory,” Mikkelsen said, referencing the industry’s increased exports and job creation in recent years. He also called for continued support through favourable conditions and a European strategy to strengthen competitiveness in the global market.

Lars Petersen, President and CEO of FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies, noted that this is just the beginning of a global expansion effort. “This first expansion sets the stage for future developments, which will also extend to the USA, United Kingdom, and Japan,” he said, reinforcing the company’s dedication to its “Partners for Life” strategy.
