Circio Expands Stockholm Lab to Advance Circular RNA Drug Development

  • Circio Holding ASA has expanded its R&D operations at Novum Labs in Stockholm to support growing circular RNA programmes.
  • The move aims to accelerate pre-clinical development and prepare the company’s first therapeutic candidate for selection by 2026.

Circio Holding ASA, a biotechnology company focused on circular RNA technology, has expanded its laboratory operations in Stockholm, Sweden. The new facility at Novum Labs will support the company’s advancing circVec RNA platform, particularly in gene and cell therapy applications.

The expansion follows promising recent data showing circVec’s advantages in tissue-specific AAV gene therapy and DNA-format in vivo cell therapy. With growing interest from the wider life sciences community, Circio is scaling its operations to meet increased research demands and collaboration opportunities.

“This brand-new state-of-the-art laboratory and office space at Novum Labs will substantially expand our footprint and provide an excellent platform for future growth,” said Ola Melin, Chief Operating Officer of Circio.

The new location connects Circio to the Flemingsberg Life Science Cluster and the Karolinska Institute, offering access to key infrastructure and expertise. According to the company, this setup will be instrumental in progressing towards in vivo disease model validation in 2025 and therapeutic candidate selection in 2026.

The expanded site, managed by Hemsö, provides flexible lab and office space tailored for early-stage life science firms. Circio will use the facility to advance its circVec programmes and maintain momentum in the development of next-generation nucleic acid medicines.
