Roche Opens 95,000-Square-Foot Innovation Center in Boston

  • Roche and Genentech have opened a new 95,000-square-foot Innovation Center in Allston, Boston, which will serve as the companies’ Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) hub.
  • The 10-year leased facility will have capacity for up to 500 people across research, clinical development, data science and other functions, expanding Roche and Genentech’s U.S. R&D presence.

Roche and Genentech have opened the Roche Genentech Innovation Center Boston at Harvard’s Enterprise Research Campus in Allston, Massachusetts. The center will serve as Roche’s Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) hub and establish an end-to-end R&D presence spanning early-stage discovery through late-stage clinical development.

The 95,000-square-foot center will bring together scientists working across discovery research, clinical development, artificial intelligence and data science. Roche and Genentech have signed a 10-year lease for the facility, which has capacity for up to 500 people across research, clinical development, data science and other functions.

The center expands Roche and Genentech’s presence within the Greater Boston life sciences ecosystem and is intended to leverage local scientific talent and academic collaboration. The companies said research activities have included efforts addressing antibiotic-resistant bacteria and the use of AI in cancer research to identify targeted treatment approaches and analyze the effectiveness of new cancer drugs in clinical trials.

The Boston investment forms part of Roche and Genentech’s broader commitment to U.S. R&D and manufacturing. The companies said recent investments and manufacturing milestones in Holly Springs, North Carolina, and Hillsboro, Oregon, are expanding their U.S. footprint across research, development and manufacturing. Roche and Genentech have around 25,000 employees in the United States, with 15 R&D centers and 13 manufacturing sites across Pharma and Diagnostics.

“Scientific innovation has always been the foundation of Roche and Genentech’s success, and the United States remains one of our most important innovation hubs. This investment in Boston is an important part of our commitment to expand our US manufacturing and R&D footprint.”
