Charles River Debuts Fast Track & Modular Viral Vector Transfer Frameworks

  • Charles River Laboratories introduces new Modular and Fast Track viral vector technology transfer frameworks.
  • The program aims to expedite process transfer to the company’s Center of Excellence within nine months.

Charles River Laboratories has launched two new frameworks for viral vector technology transfer, named Modular and Fast Track. These frameworks are designed to facilitate the continuity of product development through a seamless process transfer to the company’s Maryland-based viral vector Center of Excellence (CoE).

The Modular framework is tailored for complex scenarios requiring customizable tech transfer, such as changes in cell line or plasmid supply. In contrast, the Fast Track framework offers a more streamlined approach when no process changes are necessary. Both are aimed at providing exceptional stability and avoiding program delays.

Kerstin Dolph, Corporate Senior Vice President, Global Manufacturing at Charles River, emphasized the importance of a reliable end-to-end CDMO for supply continuity and program efficiency. “Charles River’s viral vector technology transfer program provides gene therapy developers with a cohesive concept-to-cure solution portfolio,” Dolph stated.

The company’s viral vector CoE supports the drug development lifecycle from research-grade manufacturing for studies to commercial-scale GMP manufacturing. Charles River’s recent expansions and acquisitions have broadened its cell and gene therapy portfolio to meet the increasing demand for related services.

Charles River’s new tech transfer program is set to enhance the efficiency of gene therapy development, offering a methodical and customizable approach to support clients from discovery through to commercialization.
