- BNP Lab, a South Korea-based approvals-focused CRO, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The Invention Lab, an early-stage investment and venture studio specialist, to jointly identify and nurture promising biotech and healthcare companies — combining CRO regulatory and clinical development expertise with venture capital know-how across the full startup lifecycle from early discovery through scale-up and eventual listing.
- The Invention Lab has launched a dedicated Growth Capital business team alongside the partnership, extending its investment coverage beyond early acceleration into late-stage biotech funding — creating a co-investment model in which BNP Lab’s approvals and clinical expertise acts as a value-add layer within The Invention Lab’s portfolio of new drug development companies.
BNP Lab, an approvals-focused contract research organization based in South Korea, has signed a strategic business agreement with The Invention Lab, an early-stage investment and venture studio specialist, to jointly identify and support promising biotech and healthcare companies. Announced on July 30, 2026, from Seoul, the MOU is designed to maximize investment expertise in the biotech and new drug sectors by combining The Invention Lab’s open-innovation and venture capital capabilities with BNP Lab’s clinical and regulatory approvals expertise — enabling co-investment from the initial company discovery stage through the later scale-up phase.
The partnership is structured around a deliberate gap in the Korean biotech startup ecosystem: the disconnect between early-stage venture investment and the clinical and regulatory capabilities required to advance novel drugs through the approvals process. By embedding a CRO with approvals-focused expertise directly into a co-investment model, the collaboration gives portfolio companies access to both capital and clinical development support as an integrated offering — rather than requiring founders to source funding and CRO partnerships separately at different stages of company maturity.
To support the expanded scope of the partnership, The Invention Lab has launched a Growth Capital business team with dedicated personnel in place to actively fund and support late-stage biotech deals. The team extends The Invention Lab’s investment system beyond its original early-acceleration focus to cover the full period of company growth — from seed-stage new drug ventures through the later funding rounds that precede public listing. Previous successful early-stage investments by The Invention Lab in the biotech sector include BJenJAE BioPharma, Terranocure, and Theramare, establishing a track record in new drug development company building that the BNP Lab partnership is designed to build upon.
For CRO sponsors and biopharma operators, the model reflects a broader trend in Asia-Pacific markets toward integrated investment and service platforms in which CRO regulatory and clinical expertise is positioned as a competitive differentiator within venture ecosystems — not only as a standalone outsourcing service, but as a value-creation lever applied earlier in the company lifecycle to improve the probability of clinical and regulatory success for capital-backed new drug programs.
“By teaming up with an investor that has the best open-innovation experience in Korea, we expect it will serve as a bridge for promising biotech companies to grow quickly and steadily from the beginning of their business to their eventual listing.”
