Symeres Achieves ISO 27001 Certification to Strengthen Information Security Controls

COMPANY PROFILE
  • Symeres has obtained ISO 27001 certification for its information security management system, validating its data security framework.
  • The certification aims to strengthen the protection of client data and intellectual property used in drug discovery and development collaborations.

Symeres has announced that it has received ISO/IEC 27001 certification, the international standard for information security management systems (ISMS), reinforcing its approach to protecting sensitive client data across its global operations.

The certification comes as biopharmaceutical companies increasingly require stronger data protection from outsourcing partners. As scientific collaboration becomes more digital and globally connected, organizations face rising cybersecurity threats and risks linked to evolving technologies, including artificial intelligence.

“Cybersecurity is no longer a back-office issue; it is central to the success of every client program. Our ISO 27001 certification gives clients, from biotech startups to large pharmaceutical companies, the assurance that their proprietary data, often the ‘crown jewels’ of development, is protected within a robust and continuously improving security framework.”

Gabriella Gentile, Chief Operating Officer at Symeres

According to the company, the decision to pursue certification followed an increase in security assessments from clients, financial institutions, and regulators. For many pharmaceutical companies, information security reviews are now part of the onboarding process. ISO 27001 certification allows the company to address many of these requirements earlier, which can simplify due diligence and allow project teams to focus on advancing client programs.

Symeres said it is rolling out ISO 27001 certification across its sites globally, with completion expected before the end of the year. The company’s information security framework includes audited policies for data access and breach response, employee awareness programs, controlled information sharing with partners, and ongoing internal and external audits to maintain certification.
