Axplora, a global API and ADC manufacturing specialist, has announced a €50 million investment in its Mourenx facility in Southwest France. The expansion aims to strengthen its position in contract manufacturing for APIs and biologic drug substances, particularly in the production of GLP-1 therapies targeting diabetes and obesity.
The initiative will enhance Mourenx’s large-scale API industrial chemistry and chromatography capabilities, positioning it as a key site within Axplora’s global network. The investment aligns with the company’s strategy to support leading pharmaceutical firms while fostering innovation and regional economic growth.
“GLP-1 therapies are transforming medicine by providing highly effective and well-tolerated treatments for complex diseases,” said Arul Ramadurai, Chief Commercial Officer. “This initiative, driven by strong customer partnerships, underscores Axplora’s commitment to being a trusted partner in the production of groundbreaking, life-changing medicines.”
Construction and infrastructure upgrades will begin immediately, with a targeted timeline of 15 months to achieve Biologics License Application (BLA) readiness. Dr. Pere Patón-Morales, Chief Operating Officer, stated: “This project is testament to our pioneering expertise in industrial chromatography, and working closely with our client, we target having the facility BLA-ready in 15 months.”
This investment ensures the Mourenx site will play a central role in Axplora’s API production well into the next decade, supporting next-generation therapies for critical health challenges.
