Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has announced the expansion of its strategic partnership with Sanofi through the planned acquisition of Sanofi’s sterile manufacturing site in Ridgefield, New Jersey. The move aims to increase U.S.-based drug product manufacturing capacity. Specific terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The agreement will see Thermo Fisher take over the Ridgefield facility, a sterile fill-finish and packaging site staffed by over 200 employees, all of whom are expected to join Thermo Fisher once the transaction concludes in the second half of 2025. The site will continue producing a portfolio of therapies for Sanofi while also serving additional pharma and biotech customers.
“This expansion of our long-term partnership with Thermo Fisher will help ensure a continued supply of high-quality Sanofi products,” said Brendan O’Callaghan, Sanofi’s global head of manufacturing & supply.
Thermo Fisher plans to invest further in the Ridgefield facility to increase capacity and capabilities. The site will become part of Thermo Fisher’s pharma services business within its Laboratory Products and Biopharma Services segment.
This acquisition will add to Thermo Fisher’s existing U.S. sterile fill-finish network, which includes facilities in North Carolina and Massachusetts. These operations support the company’s Accelerator™ Drug Development 360° CDMO and CRO solutions, helping biopharma clients advance therapies through the pharmaceutical pipeline.
