BioSpring Expands Luxna Collaboration to Add GuNA™ Chemistry Manufacturing

COMPANY PROFILE
  • BioSpring and Luxna Biotech have expanded their existing collaboration to allow BioSpring to manufacture custom oligonucleotides incorporating Luxna’s GuNA™ amidites.
  • The agreement expands BioSpring’s XNA-modified oligonucleotide manufacturing capabilities and provides biotech and pharmaceutical companies with access to a broader range of proprietary XNA chemistries.

BioSpring GmbH and Luxna Biotech Co., Ltd. have expanded their existing collaboration to enable BioSpring to manufacture custom oligonucleotides incorporating Luxna’s GuNA™ amidites. The agreement adds GuNA™ to the Luxna chemistries already available through BioSpring, including AmNA™, scpBNA™, and 5′-CP™.

The expanded agreement is intended to broaden BioSpring’s ability to support biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies developing next-generation oligonucleotide therapeutics using Luxna’s proprietary Xeno Nucleic Acid (XNA) technology platform. According to the companies, GuNA™ is designed to provide properties that support antisense oligonucleotide design, including enhanced nuclease resistance, improved base-specific hybridization, application of a positive charge to the oligonucleotide chain, and reduced immunotoxicity and neurotoxicity.

By incorporating GuNA™ into its manufacturing services, BioSpring said it is expanding access to a wider range of XNA chemistries for customers developing modified oligonucleotides. The companies stated that the collaboration is intended to support innovation in oligonucleotide design while providing manufacturing capabilities for modified oligonucleotide programmes.

“This extension is an important next step in our collaboration with Luxna. With GuNA™ now included, we can support customers with an even broader set of advanced XNA chemistries for the design and manufacture of modified oligonucleotides.”

Dr. Hüseyin Aygün, Chief Scientific Officer of BioSpring

Luxna stated that the addition of GuNA™ to the collaboration will allow more biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to evaluate the technology through BioSpring’s manufacturing services. The company noted that GuNA™, when combined with 5′-CP™, may contribute to improved efficacy and safety in therapies targeting central nervous system diseases.
