HOVIONE HOLDING AG has appointed Stefan Doboczky as Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2027. Doboczky has served as Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors since 2024 and has been involved in shaping its strategy and vision. He will leave the Chairman position when he takes on operational leadership of the pharmaceutical technology and services group.
Founded in 1959, HOVIONE is a family-owned pharmaceutical technology and services group with more than 2,600 employees and four FDA-inspected production and R&D sites across Europe, the United States and China. The company has technology capabilities in areas including spray drying and continuous tableting and provides services to the pharmaceutical industry worldwide.
The appointment marks Doboczky’s return to the pharmaceutical industry following more than 17 years at Royal DSM, where he became a member of the Executive Board responsible for the group’s global pharmaceutical portfolio and growth in Asia. He subsequently spent 11 years as CEO of industrial companies including Lenzing AG, Heubach GmbH and Borealis AG. He currently serves as Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Borouge International and is expected to hand over those responsibilities on October 1, 2026.
The Board conducted a comprehensive succession process before appointing Doboczky. Guy Villax, Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Family Council, said Doboczky’s experience with HOVIONE, international background and commercial expertise position him to lead the company. The company said the appointment is intended to further strengthen its international position as a technology and service provider to pharmaceutical companies.
Doboczky said he is “honored to take on the role of CEO at HOVIONE” and highlighted the company’s technology foundation, people and patient focus. The Board also thanked Marco Gil and António Almeida for their leadership during the interim co-CEO period and for continuing to execute the company’s strategy until Doboczky assumes the CEO position.
