Cellipont Bioservices and Xiogenix have published a collaborative white paper examining the use of automated formulation and fill-finish in cell therapy manufacturing. The study evaluated Xiogenix’s ARES X20+ automated fill-finish platform across small- and large-scale cell therapy workflows as programs progress toward larger clinical studies and commercialization.
The evaluation found consistent formulation performance across an approximately 17-fold increase in process scale. Final formulation volume accuracy was 98.2% at small scale and 103.6% at large scale. Cell viability remained stable before and after automated formulation, indicating that the process did not negatively affect cell integrity.
The study examined automation as an approach to downstream manufacturing challenges, including variability and handling requirements associated with manual and semi-automated processes. The evaluation also considered flexibility across different batch sizes, container formats and manufacturing scales.
The work generated feedback that was used to implement enhancements to the ARES X20+ platform. These included improvements to priming, single-use kit capacity, pressure integrity monitoring, gravimetric control, pump calibration and product recovery.
Cellipont Bioservices will also attend the 11th CAR-TCR Summit in Boston from September 15–17, 2026, where automated manufacturing and the scalability of next-generation cell therapies will be among the topics discussed.
