Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited reported strong second-quarter FY27 results, presented to investors on November 3, 2026. Consolidated revenue reached ₹1,342 crore, up 31.9% year over year and 15% from the previous quarter. Net profit rose 168% to ₹115 crore. The CDMO business, the company’s core contract development and manufacturing segment, generated ₹1,115 crore of revenue.

Management attributed the performance to the CDMO segment. Gross margin improved by 1.1 percentage points year over year, led by the CDMO and API segments. Domestic branded formulations grew 8% year over year, with improved sequential profitability. The CDMO segment accounts for roughly 80% of group revenue, according to the company’s FY26 annual report. In that year, consolidated revenue rose 5.9% to ₹4,359 crore and EBITDA rose 13.3% to ₹522 crore.

The company is also widening its manufacturing base. Akums acquired Oriflame India’s manufacturing operations for ₹56 crore, giving it entry into color cosmetics and skincare. The move is meant to diversify revenue beyond pharmaceutical drugs. At the same time, Akums is scaling its international contract manufacturing footprint in Europe and Africa.

For pharma sponsors that outsource manufacturing, the results show an Indian CDMO adding scale and geographic reach while keeping contract manufacturing as its main revenue source. Execution risk is part of the picture. The success of the international strategy depends on meeting strict regulatory and quality standards in diverse global markets.
