Symbiosis Pharmaceutical Services Ltd, a sterile biopharmaceutical contract manufacturing organisation (CMO), has purchased new premises in Stirling, Scotland. This acquisition will double the company’s footprint to 43,500 sq ft and is part of a £26 million investment aimed at increasing capacity and enhancing its service offering. The new facility will also safeguard 130 jobs and create 50 additional roles in the life sciences sector.
The project, backed by a £4.3 million grant from Scottish Enterprise, will be completed over the next three years. It includes the installation of automated sterile manufacturing production lines, which will allow Symbiosis to fill up to 15,000 vials per batch. This expansion is expected to boost the company’s capabilities in clinical and commercial pharmaceutical supply.
The new facility will feature two cleanroom-based GMP automated production lines and automation for vial inspection and labelling. These upgrades are designed to increase flexibility and efficiency, supporting the production of a range of drug modalities for both new and existing global clients.
The qualification phase of the project has begun, with regulatory inspections scheduled for November. The new manufacturing capabilities are expected to be fully operational by early 2025.
