Ardena Completes the Acquisition of Catalent’s Somerset Facility

  • Ardena has acquired Catalent’s drug product manufacturing facility in Somerset, New Jersey, marking its expansion into North America.
  • The company is also launching a new bioanalytical lab at the site, expected to be operational by Q3 2025.

Ardena, a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) and bioanalytical contract research organisation (CRO), has announced the acquisition of Catalent’s drug product manufacturing facility in Somerset, New Jersey. The move marks a key step in Ardena’s North American expansion, enhancing its late-stage and small-scale commercial manufacturing capabilities for oral drug products.

The 50,000 sq ft facility is recognised as a Centre of Excellence for advanced oral dosage forms, with expertise in modified-release formulations, Hot Melt Extrusion for bioavailability enhancement, and controlled substance handling. The site is staffed by over 200 scientists and technicians, strengthening Ardena’s global technical capabilities.

In addition to the acquisition, Ardena is expanding its bioanalytical services in North America by establishing a new 2,500 sq ft bioanalytical laboratory at the Somerset facility. The lab, expected to be operational by Q3 2025, will provide analytical testing services for small and large molecules, supporting global clinical trials with capabilities in immunochemistry, LC-MS/MS, flow cytometry, and qPCR.

“This acquisition reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting biopharma innovators at every stage of drug development,” said Jeremie Trochu, Chief Executive Officer of Ardena. “The addition of the Somerset facility strengthens our ability to provide tailored, high-quality development and manufacturing solutions to our clients, while accelerating the international expansion of our fast-growing bioanalytical business.”
