Ardena Invests in Compaction Simulator to Accelerate Tablet Development

COMPANY PROFILE
  • Ardena has invested in a Korsch Styl’One Evo compaction simulator at its Ghent, Belgium, headquarters to strengthen tableting development and help accelerate manufacturing timelines.
  • The technology uses small quantities of material to assess powder mechanics, compaction behavior, and scale-up parameters, supporting process optimization before projects advance to manufacturing at Ardena’s global sites.

Ardena, a pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) and bioanalytical contract research organization (CRO), has installed a Korsch Styl’One Evo compaction simulator at its headquarters in Ghent, Belgium. The investment is intended to strengthen the company’s tableting development capabilities and help accelerate drug development and manufacturing timelines.

The platform simulates the compression profile of a rotary tablet press. Using small amounts of material, it assesses powder mechanics, compaction behavior, and scale-up parameters. This approach is designed to reduce development time and material consumption while helping drug candidates progress toward clinical development.

The Ghent facility serves as Ardena’s headquarters and solid-dose development hub. The new technology will allow projects to advance through development before scaling up at one of the company’s global manufacturing sites. The facility also houses Ardena’s Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) Regulatory team, which supports customers from preclinical development through clinical manufacturing.

“The investment would allow the company to screen tableting manufacturing processes and generate development data using small quantities of drug product. The technology would help optimize processes and advance oral solid-dose projects toward clinical development.”

Ian Bilodeau, global head of CDMO at Ardena

Ardena’s Ghent facility employs more than 100 people. In addition to drug development and regulatory services, the site supports the company’s broader pharmaceutical development and manufacturing network.
