Artis BioSolutions has launched its Genetic Medicines Center of Excellence in Bilbao, Spain, expanding its development and manufacturing platform for genetic medicines. The center provides capabilities spanning synthetic DNA, mRNA drug substance manufacturing, lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation and manufacturing services, and GMP drug product manufacturing.
The company said integrating these capabilities within a single organization is intended to provide multiple development entry points for customers while reducing technology transfer requirements and supporting programs from early development through clinical trials and commercialization. The center is designed to address development activities involving DNA starting materials, RNA production, delivery, formulation, analytics and scalable drug product manufacturing.
Artis said the Bilbao facility complements its existing U.S.-based Boston BioSolutions site in Watertown, Massachusetts. The company is combining process development and GMP manufacturing capabilities across multiple modalities and geographic locations to support technology transfer, clinical manufacturing and commercial manufacturing.
The company said the new center is intended to provide a more coordinated development path in which product design, manufacturing processes and therapeutic delivery can be optimized together. It also aims to reduce the time, cost and operational complexity associated with coordinating multiple suppliers.
