Besins Healthcare has acquired UniD Manufacturing, a Belgium-based pharmaceutical development and manufacturing company specializing in long-acting drug delivery technologies. The acquisition includes UniD’s manufacturing site in Seraing, Belgium, where 52 employees will transfer to Besins Healthcare as part of the transaction.
According to the company, the acquisition combines Besins Healthcare’s expertise in hormone therapies with UniD’s capabilities in the development and manufacture of long-acting drug delivery systems, including implants and vaginal rings. UniD Manufacturing will be renamed Besins Healthcare PharmTech and will progressively serve as a center of excellence for innovation and future development projects, while continuing to support its existing clients.
The companies said the transaction is intended to strengthen Besins Healthcare’s pharmaceutical development and manufacturing capabilities by adding expertise in advanced polymer technologies used for complex long-acting drug delivery systems. The acquisition supports the company’s strategy to expand its innovation capabilities while maintaining ongoing manufacturing operations at the Belgium facility.
“This acquisition unites two teams with deep and complementary expertise, and we couldn’t be more pleased to welcome UniD to Besins Healthcare.”
