Bespak, a specialist contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for inhaled and nasal drug delivery, and Upperton, a CDMO specializing in formulation development, have entered a strategic collaboration focused on nasal drug-device combination products. The companies will combine Bespak’s nasal device design, development engineering, industrialization and commercial supply capabilities with Upperton’s formulation development, analytical and clinical manufacturing expertise.
The collaboration comes as interest in nasal delivery grows, particularly for systemic central nervous system (CNS) therapies and nose-to-brain applications. According to the companies, developers face challenges in coordinating formulation, device and manufacturing suppliers throughout development. The combined offering is intended to provide a pathway from early opportunity assessment and formulation-device development through clinical supply, scale-up and commercial manufacturing.
The offering will support liquid, soft mist and dry powder formulations across Bespak’s newly expanded proprietary single- and multi-dose nasal device portfolio. By bringing formulation and device expertise together earlier in development, the companies aim to reduce development complexity and improve efficiency as nasal drug products progress toward clinical and commercial supply.
“Our collaboration with Upperton adds highly complementary formulation and analytical expertise to our expanded nasal device portfolio, giving customers a more integrated development pathway.”
Chris Hirst, CEO of Bespak
“The collaboration would combine Upperton’s formulation, analytical and clinical manufacturing expertise with Bespak’s device engineering and commercialisation capabilities. The companies said the collaboration is intended to support earlier development decisions and provide a clearer pathway from development and clinical supply toward commercialisation.”
Nikki Whitfield, CEO of Upperton
