- Bionova Scientific has entered a strategic manufacturing alliance with Syenex to expand access to plasmid DNA for cell and gene therapies.
Bionova Scientific LLC, an Asahi Kasei company and a bespoke CDMO, has announced a strategic manufacturing alliance with Syenex, a genetic medicines platform company. The collaboration is focused on expanding global access to plasmid DNA used in next-generation gene delivery for advanced cell and gene therapies.
Under the agreement, Bionova Scientific will serve as the preferred manufacturing partner for Syenex’s delivery platforms. The partnership builds on Bionova’s plasmid DNA manufacturing capabilities, which support lentiviral vector production and DNA templates for mRNA manufacturing. The companies said the alliance addresses ongoing challenges in pricing, quality, and supply-chain reliability of plasmid DNA.
Bionova’s platform is based on a proprietary genetically stable host cell line designed to remove insertion sequence elements, cryptic prophages, and nonessential bacterial genomic regions. According to the press release, this architecture reduces plasmid instability that can affect lentiviral vector yield, batch consistency, and regulatory robustness, supporting both research-use-only and GMP applications.
As part of the collaboration, Bionova is expanding its off-the-shelf and custom lentiviral vector plasmid offerings, including gag/pol, rev, VSV-G, and transgene backbones. These systems are intended to support a seamless transition from RUO through GMP manufacturing, reducing comparability risk across IND-enabling, clinical, and late-stage development programmes within a contract manufacturing framework.
