CCRM to Evaluate Avectas Cell Therapy Manufacturing Platform with OmniaBio

COMPANY PROFILE
  • CCRM and its CDMO subsidiary OmniaBio have entered into an agreement with Avectas to evaluate the company’s automated cell therapy manufacturing platform.
  • The evaluation will assess how the platform could support standardized, automated and scalable manufacturing workflows across CCRM’s global network and OmniaBio’s manufacturing operations.

CCRM and its contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) subsidiary OmniaBio have signed an agreement with Avectas Limited to evaluate the company’s automated, integrated and scalable cell therapy manufacturing platform. The evaluation will examine how the technology could complement CCRM’s global network of advanced therapy hubs and support OmniaBio’s efforts to develop more standardized, automated and scalable manufacturing workflows.

The initiative is focused on cell and gene therapy manufacturing. CCRM advances the development and commercialization of regenerative medicine-based technologies and cell and gene therapies through a network that includes hubs in Canada, Australia and the Nordic countries. OmniaBio, which focuses on cell and gene therapies, is developing its AI-enabled Intelligent Factory designed to improve manufacturing efficiency, scalability and consistency through automation and robotics.

According to the companies, the evaluation aligns with CCRM and OmniaBio’s global hub-and-spoke manufacturing model, which combines centralized and distributed process and analytics capabilities. Avectas has developed a cell therapy manufacturing platform intended to address challenges related to scale-up, scale-out, automation and cost-effective contract manufacturing.

“We first collaborated with Avectas in 2020 and have closely followed the progress of Avectas’ manufacturing platform over the past several years. As we continue to expand CCRM’s global network of advanced therapy hubs, we are excited to evaluate technologies that have the potential to improve automation, scalability and manufacturing efficiency.”

The announcement comes as CCRM explores further international expansion. The organization recently signed a memorandum of understanding with RINN Advanced Therapies to explore establishing CCRM Ireland alongside local partners. The proposed hub is intended to support advanced therapy development and manufacturing capabilities in Ireland while creating opportunities for international collaboration and technology deployment.
