Cellares has joined the New American Industrial Alliance (NAIA), a coalition focused on strengthening U.S. manufacturing capacity and industrial competitiveness. The company said the membership aligns with its goal of building a resilient domestic biomanufacturing ecosystem capable of supporting large-scale production of advanced cell therapies.
NAIA brings together companies, investors, and policymakers focused on expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities across sectors including advanced manufacturing, defense, aerospace, energy, and technology. According to Cellares, its participation in the organization reflects its commitment to reducing reliance on overseas pharmaceutical manufacturing and supporting U.S.-based production infrastructure.
Cellares operates Smart Factory facilities in South San Francisco, California, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, and is developing additional facilities in Europe and Japan. The company said its automated manufacturing platform is designed to reduce labor requirements by up to 80% and facility footprint by up to 90% while enabling commercial-scale production of cell therapies. The U.S. facilities are expected to begin commercial cGMP operations in 2027 and provide manufacturing capacity for up to 50,000 patient doses annually.
“America’s leadership in biotechnology must be matched by leadership in manufacturing. Joining NAIA reflects our commitment to strengthening the nation’s strategic biomanufacturing capabilities and ensuring that life-saving therapies invented in America can also be manufactured in America.”
Fabian Gerlinghaus, CEO and Co-Founder of Cellares
The company also highlighted recent milestones, including the manufacture of GMP cell therapy products administered to patients, a worldwide capacity reservation and supply agreement with Bristol Myers Squibb valued at $380 million, more than $600 million in private capital raised, and receipt of the FDA’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology designation. Cellares said it aims to support a stronger domestic biomanufacturing infrastructure through automation and scalable manufacturing capabilities.
