Celltrion Signs KRW 294.9 Billion($221M) CMO Deal for Three-Year Drug Substance Supply

COMPANY PROFILE
  • Celltrion has signed a contract manufacturing agreement worth approximately KRW 294.9 billion to supply drug substance from 2027 to 2029.
  • The company’s cumulative CMO order backlog has exceeded KRW 1 trillion in the first quarter, driven by growing CDMO demand.

Celltrion has entered into a contract manufacturing agreement with an undisclosed global pharmaceutical company to supply drug substance over a three-year period from 2027 to 2029. The contract is valued at approximately KRW 294.9 billion and may increase to KRW 375.4 billion subject to mutual agreement.

The agreement reflects ongoing demand for Celltrion’s contract manufacturing and CDMO services, with the company stating it will complete production arrangements in advance to support stable delivery. The counterparty has not been disclosed due to confidentiality requirements.

Celltrion reported that its global CMO business has expanded following its strategy to strengthen this segment. Earlier this year, the company signed a KRW 678.7 billion contract with Eli Lilly, and with the addition of the latest agreement, its cumulative CMO order backlog exceeded KRW 1 trillion within the first quarter.

The company operates a total manufacturing capacity of 316,000 liters across facilities in Songdo, South Korea, and Branchburg, New Jersey. It noted that increasing demand from global pharmaceutical companies, combined with the expansion of its own product portfolio, is expected to drive the need for additional manufacturing capacity in the mid to long term.

“This large-scale CMO agreement once again shows that Celltrion’s manufacturing quality and supply capabilities are recognized in the global market. Considering the need to expand manufacturing for our own products, along with the growth of the CDMO business and increasing global demand, we plan to actively pursue additional manufacturing capacity to support future growth.”
