Codis Acquires Catalent’s UK Facility to Expand Oral Solid Dose CDMO Services

COMPANY PROFILE
  • Codis has agreed to acquire Catalent Pharma Solutions’ Nottingham, UK facility, adding oral solid dose development and small-scale manufacturing capabilities to its CDMO offering.
  • The acquisition will complement Codis’ commercial spray drying operations in Haverhill, UK, creating an integrated platform spanning formulation development through clinical supply and commercial intermediates to final oral dose forms.

Codis has entered into an agreement with Catalent Pharma Solutions to acquire Catalent’s pharmaceutical development and manufacturing facility in Nottingham, UK. The acquisition, which is expected to close in the third quarter of this year subject to customary closing conditions, will expand Codis’ CDMO capabilities by adding oral solid dose (OSD) development and small-scale manufacturing alongside its existing spray drying and particle engineering services.

The Nottingham facility brings formulation development, analytical services, and clinical supply expertise, supported by a team that has delivered development-scale spray drying and oral solid dose solutions for more than 20 years. Codis said the acquisition will create an integrated pathway for spray-dried products, from early development through clinical supply, commercial intermediates, and final oral dose manufacturing.

The acquisition complements Codis’ commercial spray drying facility in Haverhill, UK, where the company is expanding capacity with a new GEA Pharma-SD® type PSD-4 commercial spray dryer scheduled for validation in 2027. According to the company, combining formulation development with contract manufacturing is intended to simplify technology transfer and support bioavailability enhancement for poorly soluble small-molecule drug candidates.

“This strategic acquisition will further establish Codis as a leading European provider of comprehensive spray dry solutions.”

Nicolas Fortin, CEO of Codis

Codis said the integration of the Nottingham and Haverhill sites will provide customers with a single quality system and manufacturing network supporting formulation development, analytical testing, clinical manufacturing, and commercial-scale spray drying for oral solid dose products.
