Curia Global, Inc. (Curia) has opened its expanded manufacturing campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following a $200 million investment. The expansion adds 70,000 square feet to the facility’s existing 200,000-square-foot manufacturing footprint and is intended to increase domestic production capacity for injectable medicines.
The expanded campus specializes in aseptic fill-finish and lyophilization services, supported by automated visual inspection and packaging technologies. It includes two new isolated filling lines: a VarioSys® flexible filling line for syringes, cartridges, and vials, and a high-speed vial line capable of handling 1,000-liter batch sizes and filling up to 400 vials per minute.
The facility’s capabilities are also supported by Sterile University™, a sterile manufacturing training program. Curia said the Albuquerque campus has a 40-year history as a center of excellence for sterile drug product manufacturing.
The expansion was supported through a cooperative agreement with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), in coordination with the Department of War’s Capability Program Executive for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense. The State of New Mexico also supported the project through assistance from the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) job creation fund.
