- ESTEVE CDMO will add a 3,000-square-meter production unit in Celrà, Spain, including new spray drying capabilities, with operations beginning in 2027.

ESTEVE CDMO has announced plans to expand its production footprint in Celrà, Spain, alongside the launch of a new brand identity at DCAT Week in New York. The contract manufacturing organization (CDMO), which focuses on small-molecule APIs and pharmaceutical intermediates, said the expansion builds on its existing strategy to increase production capacity and advanced containment capabilities.
The company will add a 3,000-square-meter production unit designed to house spray drying equipment within high-potency containment suites. The investment includes a GEA Pharma-SD PSD-2 spray dryer, expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2027, followed by a PSD-3 unit later that year. The facility is also designed to accommodate a commercial-scale PSD-4 spray dryer, with additional expansion plans already outlined.
According to the company, the new infrastructure is intended to support the safe and efficient handling of highly potent compounds while advancing its capabilities in amorphous solid dispersion (ASD) solutions. The expansion is part of a multi-year investment programme aimed at strengthening its contract manufacturing offering in small-molecule development and production.
ESTEVE CDMO said it expects to add up to 15 new staff once PSD-2 and PSD-3 operations are fully operational, with PSD-4 activities planned for a later stage.
“As our work in Girona progresses, it is important that we remain aligned with the needs of our partners, and adding spray drying capabilities can help solve problems they face with the characteristics of development pipelines, such as stability, poor solubility, potency, and scalability.”
Joan Petit, President at Esteve CDMO
In parallel with the expansion, the company introduced a new global brand identity to present a consistent corporate image and communicate its values more clearly to stakeholders. Andrea Oro, Global Head of Commercial Operations and Strategy and Managing Director US at Esteve CDMO, said the new branding reflects the company’s approach to collaboration and engagement with partners.
