Evonik is investing more than CAD 150 million ($108 million) to establish a new GMP drug product manufacturing facility for lipid-based drug delivery in Vancouver, Canada. The investment is intended to expand Evonik’s development and manufacturing capacity and support pharmaceutical and biotech customers from development through commercial scale.

The project is supported by up to CAD 68 million ($49 million) from the Canadian federal government’s Strategic Response Fund. Production at the new facility is planned to begin at the end of 2029.

The new facility will expand Evonik’s existing manufacturing capabilities and provide more than three times the manufacturing capacity of its current facility for advanced pharmaceutical products. It will also expand quality control and microbiological testing capabilities to support product release for clinical use.

The investment builds on Evonik’s existing expertise in lipid-based drug delivery technologies. The company said the expanded capabilities will support the development and commercialization of lipid-based pharmaceutical products.

“Lipid-based drug delivery technologies are already enabling the next generation of medicines. With the support of the Canadian federal government, this investment builds on our long-standing expertise in the field, enabling the development and commercialization of more life-changing therapies.”
