Evonik has announced the sale of selected production assets for pharmaceutical ingredients at its Hanau, Germany site to contract manufacturer ProChem Group. The transaction is part of Evonik’s strategy to streamline its Health Care business and concentrate investment on selected areas of pharmaceutical innovation.
According to the company, its Health Care business will focus on advanced oral and injectable drug delivery technologies, as well as precision biosolutions including lipids for mRNA and gene delivery and advanced cell culture ingredients. The company said refining its asset footprint will allow it to direct resources toward these core areas.
The Hanau site has supplied the pharmaceutical industry with active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), intermediates, and pharmaceutical lipids. Under the agreement, ProChem Group will acquire the facilities and integrate them into its manufacturing network.
“Refining our focus and aligning our assets enables us to deliver even more strongly in the areas where we create the highest value for our customers.”
Guido Skudlarek, head of Evonik’s Health Care business line
ProChem Group stated that the acquisition will strengthen its production capabilities, expand its technological expertise, and enhance its service offering for pharmaceutical customers.
