eXmoor Pharma, a cell and gene therapy CDMO with embedded consultancy expertise, has entered a strategic partnership with KU Leuven to accelerate novel gene therapy programmes from academic research to first-in-human trials.
The collaboration supports KU Leuven’s new cell and gene therapy hub, launched with university hospitals Leuven (UZ Leuven) as a translational platform for its gene therapy assets. A primary focus will be the development of adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapies, using intellectual property from KU Leuven and scientific input from its Trellis Research Group, led by Principal Investigator Els Henckaerts.
As part of the partnership, eXmoor and Trellis will jointly develop a proprietary AAV producer cell line to support scalable vector production. The partnership also includes eXmoor’s role as an in-house CMC consultancy, delivering regulatory strategy, manufacturing planning, and cost analysis through its proprietary Health Check Questionnaire.
The agreement also covers the development of a scalable AAV platform process. eXmoor will oversee quality integration, process development, MSAT, technology transfer, and GMP manufacturing from its UK site.

The partnership aligns academic research with contract manufacturing capabilities, aiming to improve speed and rigour in advancing gene therapy candidates to early clinical stages.
