Fujifilm Cellular Dynamics Expands Neuroscience Portfolio with iPSC-Derived Neurons

  • Fujifilm Cellular Dynamics launched iPSC-derived iCell Sensory Neurons for neuroscience research and drug discovery.
  • The product will be showcased at the Society for Neuroscience and Annual Pain Therapeutics Summit in October 2024.

Fujifilm Cellular Dynamics, a global developer and manufacturer of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), has announced the global commercial launch of its iCell Sensory Neurons. This new product is aimed at scientists working in neuroscience research, drug discovery, and the analysis of neurotoxicity side effects. Fujifilm Cellular Dynamics will showcase the iCell Sensory Neurons at two major industry events in October: the Society for Neuroscience annual conference in Chicago and the Annual Pain Therapeutics Summit in Boston.

The iCell Sensory Neurons are designed to help researchers study sensory neurons that relay information about painful stimuli to the central nervous system. These human-derived cell models offer an alternative to animal models and can improve drug predictability, especially in pain research and for analysing the neurotoxicity of cancer treatments. Fujifilm’s innovation aims to support the development of next-generation pain medications and chemotherapeutics by providing consistent, off-the-shelf human neurons.

“Fujifilm Cellular Dynamics continues its strong commitment to innovation and our mission to provide our clients with the highest quality cellular material to advance the field of medical research,” said Dr Keith R. Olson, executive vice president at Fujifilm Cellular Dynamics. He highlighted the product’s potential to accelerate the study of human disease and pain targets.

These iPSC-derived neurons come ready to use and have demonstrated key drug discovery functionalities, such as sensory responses and consistent lot purity. They are available as a kit with proprietary media or as a standalone product, supporting a range of research and drug development needs.
