Gaelic Laboratories and Athlone Laboratories have aligned their manufacturing processes to launch a dual-source supply strategy for Beta-Lactam antibiotics. The strategy will be presented at CPHI Milan, taking place October 6–8, 2026. The companies said the model will provide customers with access to two manufacturing sites in the European Union.
Both companies are GMP-approved manufacturers of Beta-Lactam antibiotics based in Ireland. They produce a range of oral products supplied to markets including Ireland, the UK and European Union, Middle East and North Africa, Canada and Australia. The companies said Gaelic’s acquisition of Athlone in December 2025 was intended in part to restructure manufacturing activities across both sites and leverage their respective capabilities.
The integration program has included operational efficiencies, consolidated supply chains, an internal communications program and a joint website. Phase 1 was completed earlier in 2026. The companies have now aligned their manufacturing processes to support production of Beta-Lactams across both facilities.
The dual-source strategy is designed to reduce risks associated with dependence on a single manufacturing site while allowing customers to use the combined facilities, capabilities and personnel of both companies. Together, Gaelic and Athlone Laboratories have capacity to produce 1.2 billion oral forms per year. The companies are also upgrading both sites to comply with the latest AMR Industry Alliance Manufacturing Standard and strengthening technology transfer protocols.
