Grifols Partners with Inpeco to Enhance Lab Automation in Transfusion Medicine

  • Grifols has partnered with Inpeco to integrate automation technologies into transfusion medicine laboratories, improving efficiency and safety.
  • The collaboration includes Inpeco’s FlexLab X system, enabling seamless sample management and reducing manual intervention.

Grifols has signed a strategic agreement with Inpeco, a leader in total laboratory automation technologies, to enhance transfusion medicine laboratories with advanced robotics and software solutions. The partnership aims to modernise lab operations, increasing efficiency and precision in blood screening and typing.

Under the agreement, Grifols will integrate Inpeco’s FlexLab X automation system with its diagnostic solutions. This technology uses robotics to transport sample tubes to analyzers, automate storage, and ensure full traceability, reducing manual handling and improving workflow management. Digital dashboards will provide real-time lab performance insights, while a flexible system architecture allows for future innovations.

The collaboration strengthens Grifols’ position in the diagnostic sector, where its screening technologies analyse tens of millions of donor samples annually. By complementing its analytical capabilities with Inpeco’s automation, the company seeks to provide a comprehensive and scalable solution for laboratories worldwide.

Both companies are also exploring further areas of innovation, including new methods for sample pooling, transport, and analysis. Antonio Martínez, president of Grifols Diagnostic Business Unit, stated, “Grifols is providing the laboratory of the future. We are extremely pleased to join forces with Inpeco… to fully equip their operations knowing they will have the most advanced and scalable technologies today and in the future.”

Inpeco’s CEO, Riccardo Triunfo, highlighted the impact of automation in transfusion medicine, emphasising the importance of safety, efficiency, and accuracy in diagnostic processes. He stated, “Especially in transfusion medicine, where precision is non-negotiable, our mission is to ensure that labs operate with the highest levels of safety, efficiency, and accuracy.”
