Hikal has commissioned an enhanced current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP)-compliant pilot plant facility at its Pune Research & Technology (R&T) campus. The company said the expansion strengthens its capabilities in process development, scale-up, technology transfer, and clinical-stage manufacturing, supporting pharmaceutical customers from early development through commercial manufacturing readiness.
The new facility is designed to strengthen the connection between laboratory-scale research and commercial-scale production. According to Hikal, it will help customers accelerate development timelines, improve process robustness, and generate high-quality material for regulated development programs. The investment also expands the company’s contract manufacturing capabilities for pharmaceutical development.
Hikal said the pilot plant enables the manufacture and supply of preclinical and clinical-phase development materials directly from its R&T campus. The company added that the setup allows scientists and engineers to closely monitor manufacturing processes, enhance cross-functional collaboration, and reduce technology-transfer timelines to support project delivery.
Hikal partners with global companies across the pharmaceutical, animal health, crop protection, and specialty chemical industries, manufacturing active ingredients, intermediates, and biocides for the life sciences sector. The new facility further expands the company’s pharmaceutical development platform at its Pune Innovation Campus.
“The commissioning of our cGMP pilot plant is an important step in strengthening Hikal’s pharmaceutical development and scale-up platform. It enhances our ability to support customers as they transition from laboratory development to larger-scale clinical programmes, while staying firmly anchored in quality, safety, and compliance.”
