Hikal Ltd., a life sciences company serving the pharmaceutical, animal health, and specialty chemicals industries, has opened a High Potency Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (HPAPI) laboratory at its Research and Technology Innovation Centre in Pune.
The new facility enhances Hikal’s role as a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO), enabling it to develop and supply highly potent compounds to the global pharmaceutical industry. Designed to support the development of complex oncology and specialty molecules, the lab strengthens the company’s position in meeting rising demand for potent molecule development.
According to Sameer Hiremath, vice chairman and managing director of Hikal, the addition of the HPAPI laboratory “positions the company well to meet the increasing demand for potent molecule development.”
The Pune innovation centre now houses an integrated R&D ecosystem that includes a validation lab, a process safety lab, a solid-state lab, a flow chemistry lab, and instrumentation and synthesis laboratories. This infrastructure supports the seamless transition of projects from early-phase studies to commercial manufacturing, covering production scales from milligrams to pilot plant batches exceeding 100 kilograms.
Through this expansion, Hikal continues to advance its end-to-end solutions across the development and manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Active Ingredients (AIs), intermediates, and biocides for customers in the global life sciences sector.
