Hovione and Industrial Design Consultancy Ltd (IDC) have announced that their intranasal drug delivery platform has reached commercial partnership readiness, with a single-use nasal dry powder device now available for pharmaceutical companies.
The companies stated that the device design has been completed and that initial manufacturing and supply capabilities have been established. According to the companies, the platform is designed to work with existing capsule filling infrastructure, with the aim of simplifying development and reducing timelines, cost, and technical risk.
The integrated platform combines API development, advanced particle engineering, formulation development, capsule filling, drug product manufacturing, and device supply. Hovione said the approach is intended to reduce technology transfers and provide pharmaceutical partners with a single development and contract manufacturing platform for intranasal therapies.
The single-use nasal dry powder device is protected by an intellectual property portfolio covering the platform technology, and the companies stated that initial patent grants have already been secured. Hovione and IDC are also developing a multi-dose version of the device to broaden potential applications across therapies and dosing regimens.
