Laurus Labs Acquires 60% Stake in Galenvs Science for $3.75 Million

COMPANY PROFILE
  • Laurus Labs has agreed to acquire a 60% stake in Canada-based Galenvs Sciences Inc. for US$3.75 million, expanding its oligonucleotide research and development capabilities in North America.
  • The company will also acquire a 52% stake in Hyderabad-based SI&C Resins for ₹32.5 crore to strengthen its peptide manufacturing supply chain and bring peptide resin and chromatography stationary phase production in-house.

Laurus Labs, an India-based contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), has entered into definitive agreements to acquire majority stakes in two companies, Galenvs Sciences Inc. and SI&C Resins Private Limited. The acquisitions are intended to expand its oligonucleotide research and development capabilities, strengthen peptide manufacturing operations, and support its integrated CDMO offering.

Under the first agreement, Laurus Labs will acquire a 60% stake in Galenvs Sciences, a Canada-based precision contract research and development organization specializing in custom oligonucleotide synthesis and functional magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) technologies. The US$3.75 million transaction will comprise a US$2.75 million primary investment and a US$1 million secondary share acquisition. Galenvs operates research and development and laboratory facilities in Montreal, supporting discovery, optimization, synthesis, purification, validation, and pilot-scale production.

Galenvs will focus on discovery, lead optimization, and preclinical process development at scales ranging from 1 µmol to 10 mmol. It will transfer the resulting technology to Laurus Labs for Phase I, II, and III clinical trial manufacturing and subsequent commercial-scale production. The acquisition is expected to provide Laurus with an oligonucleotide R&D pipeline and opportunities to expand its North American business.

Separately, Laurus Labs will acquire a 52% stake in Hyderabad-based SI&C Resins for ₹32.5 crore. The company manufactures polymer- and silica-based products for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. The investment is intended to strengthen Laurus Labs’ supply chain security by bringing the production of peptide solid-support resins and chromatography stationary phases in-house. SI&C plans to use the proceeds to establish a large-scale manufacturing plant for peptide resins and chromatography gels. The company stated: “Indigenous resins, chromatography gels development, and large-scale manufacturing will help to capture fully integrated peptide manufacturing opportunities.”
