Lonza and Asimov announced a strategic collaboration to advance lentiviral vector (LVV) manufacturing for emerging in vivo applications. The collaboration brings together Asimov’s LV Edge system cell line technologies with Lonza’s expertise in process development, scale-up, analytics and GMP manufacturing.

The companies aim to connect early design decisions with development and manufacturing considerations. This approach is intended to help developers incorporate manufacturability considerations earlier in development and establish a foundation for scalable clinical and commercial production. The companies said current LVV production methods largely rely on multi-plasmid transient transfection, which can limit scalability and consistency.

For in vivo developers, the combined capabilities are designed to address performance and consistency requirements for LVV applications through stable, program-specific production strategies. The approaches can also support ex vivo LVV programs. The collaboration will span transgene optimization, cell line development, process development, advanced analytics, scale-up, GMP manufacturing and CMC readiness.

“The development of in vivo lentiviral therapies requires design and manufacturing strategy to be considered together from the earliest stages. The collaboration is intended to bring manufacturability considerations earlier into development and provide customers with a path toward scalable clinical and commercial manufacturing.”

Daniel Palmacci, Head of Specialized Modalities at Lonza

Lonza and Asimov will continue to define a feasibility-first framework as the collaboration progresses, covering the development and manufacturing activities required to support lentiviral vector programs.
