Medipost Signs CDMO Deal with QCellS for hiPSC Cell-Culture Media

COMPANY PROFILE
  • Medipost has signed a CDMO agreement with QCellS to manufacture and supply cell-culture media for QCellS’s human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-based dermal papilla cell platform.
  • Medipost will apply its cell-therapy manufacturing and quality-control capabilities to establish a scaled production system for the media in line with South Korean cosmetics safety regulations.

Medipost has signed a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) agreement with QCellS to produce hiPSC-based dermal papilla cell-culture media. Under the agreement, Medipost will use its cell-therapy manufacturing and quality-control expertise to establish a production system and manage the production and supply of raw materials.

The manufacturing process for QCellS’s hiPSC-based dermal papilla cell-culture media takes about 120 days through cell differentiation and cultivation. Medipost said it applied scale-up manufacturing technology to reduce batch-to-batch quality variation and establish a raw-material supply system for mass production.

The media will be produced using Medipost’s GMP production facilities and quality-control capabilities, with services provided in line with South Korean cosmetics safety regulations. The products will undergo quality testing covering appearance and sterility, mycoplasma and adventitious virus testing, identity and purity before release.

The agreement expands Medipost’s CDMO activities from cell therapies into cell-culture media. The companies intend to combine QCellS’s research and development in hiPSCs and dermal papilla cells with Medipost’s manufacturing and quality-control capabilities to support commercialization.

“Based on the stem-cell production technology and GMP quality-control capabilities the company has accumulated, we are now supporting the commercialization of QCellS’s dermal papilla cell-culture media. Through the stable mass production and supply of high-quality cell-culture media, we will support the growth of our partners and continue to strengthen our CDMO competitiveness.”
