Neuland Laboratories plans to invest $20 million to establish a dedicated process-development laboratory and integrated kilo lab at its Genome Valley campus in Hyderabad. The 135,000-square-foot facility will be fitted out in phases and is expected to be fully completed by October 2026. The company said the site will focus exclusively on process development and scale-up activities for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and peptides.
The expansion is intended to increase Neuland’s process-development workforce to more than 500 scientists and provide additional capacity to support pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies moving drug substances from early-stage development toward commercial production. As a CDMO focused on API development and manufacturing, the company said the facility will support scale-up activities from Phase I through Phase IV development.
According to Neuland, the integrated non-GMP kilo labs will enable scientists to evaluate process performance at larger scales without transferring work to separate sites or competing for GMP manufacturing capacity. The company said the design will allow development teams to continue process optimization while generating scale-up data in parallel.
The facility will include AI-driven route scouting, parallel synthesis, electronic laboratory notebooks and a centralized analytical wing. Additional capabilities will include process engineering, polymorph studies, process safety, advanced flow chemistry, five peptide laboratories and three purification laboratories. The kilo lab will be equipped with 20- to 250-liter all-glass reactors, cryogenic capability and multiple filtration systems.
