Northway Biotech has opened a new cell therapy and personalized medicine CDMO facility in Vilnius, Lithuania, following a €61 million investment by Northway Group. The 3,500-square-meter center expands the company’s development and cGMP manufacturing capacity for advanced therapies and begins operations with first customers already on board and contracts in place.
The facility is designed to support the development and cGMP manufacturing of autologous and allogeneic cell-based therapies, personalized therapeutic vaccines, regenerative medicine applications, and 3D human tissue technologies. Its segregated manufacturing infrastructure enables multiple cell-based products and processes to be handled in parallel while maintaining requirements for product identity, quality, traceability, and contamination control.
The center will operate up to 20 independent cGMP-compliant manufacturing lines and includes quality control laboratories and advanced cleanroom systems. Northway said its services will support biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, university hospitals, and research institutions. The facility expands the company’s existing CDMO platform across mammalian and microbial biologics, gene therapy, and cell-based technologies.
The new facility will also support cell and tissue technologies, including approaches in which a patient’s immune cells are modified to recognize and destroy specific cancer cells. Northway will also apply its expertise to regenerative medicine, 3D human tissue technologies, and personalized therapeutic vaccine development.
