Piramal Pharma Solutions, a global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) and part of Piramal Pharma Ltd, has announced the acquisition of a Korsch XM-12 bilayer tablet press for its Morpeth, UK site.
The facility supports the company’s integrated offering by providing specialist services for oral solids and hormonal products. The addition of the Korsch XM-12 enables the production of both single-layer and bilayer tablets with high precision and efficiency. Features include advanced sanitary fittings, a containment chute for high potency APIs, and interchangeable turrets for rapid changeovers.
The company has placed emphasis on safety and compliance during implementation. “In preparation for using the Korsch XM-12, Piramal’s scientists, operators, and maintenance teams will undergo thorough training alongside Korsch factory technicians, while Piramal’s validation experts carry out qualification and validation. All activities will meet both industry standards and Piramal’s own quality requirements,” said Frank Bugg, Managing Director and Site Head at the Morpeth facility.
Training will be role-specific, covering operators, scientists, technology transfer staff, and maintenance teams. Both bilayer and single-layer operations will be tested, alongside instructions on changeovers, cleaning, and future containment procedures.
Piramal stated that the new technology reinforces its commitment to continuous improvement and quality in contract manufacturing, with the investment aimed at supporting the delivery of innovative therapies to patients worldwide.
