Piramal Pharma Solutions has launched a spray drying suite at its peptide development and manufacturing facility in Turbhe, India, expanding its contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) capabilities for peptide and complex molecule formulation. The company said the investment is intended to address formulation challenges associated with peptides while supporting growing demand for these molecules.
The spray drying suite uses a closed-loop system with an inert gas supply and safety features including specialized HVAC, airlocked entry and exit points, operator isolation, and a dedicated cleaning area. According to the company, the facility supports handling of potent compounds and organic solvents requiring up to Band 5 containment and maintains ISO Class 8 (Class 100,000) cleanliness standards throughout operations.
The unit is designed for small-volume, high-potency batches with a feed rate of up to one liter per hour. It is capable of spray drying highly concentrated solutions containing up to 30% water and is intended to support the formulation of biomolecules and large peptides. Under optimal conditions, the suite can also be used for low-volume small-molecule formulations as part of contract manufacturing activities.
