- QSA Global and NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes have entered a multi-year strategic services agreement to support the supply of radium-226 targets used in Actinium-225 production.
- The partnership establishes a closed-loop process for Ra-226 purification, target manufacturing, irradiation, recovery, and recycling to support commercial-scale production of no carrier added Ac-225 for targeted alpha therapies.
QSA Global and NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes have signed a multi-year strategic services agreement focused on supporting the supply chain for radium-226 (Ra-226) targets used in the production of Actinium-225 (Ac-225). The companies said the partnership is intended to support NorthStar’s commercial-scale manufacturing of no carrier added Ac-225 for targeted alpha therapies.
Under the agreement, QSA Global will process legacy Ra-226 material for NorthStar through a multi-year purification campaign. According to the companies, the purified material will be converted into high-purity precursors for continuous target capsule manufacturing. Following irradiation and processing by NorthStar to produce Ac-225, the recovered radium will be returned to QSA Global for recycling into new targets as part of a closed-loop supply chain process.
The companies stated that the collaboration combines QSA Global’s experience in radioactive source manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and logistics with NorthStar’s radiopharmaceutical production capabilities. The agreement is intended to provide a consistent supply of starting materials required for Ac-225 manufacturing.
“By ensuring consistent access to these vital starting materials, we can confidently meet growing demand within the industry.”
Dr. Frank Scholz, President and CEO of NorthStar
Joe Lapinskas, Innovation Director at QSA Global, said the partnership supports NorthStar’s production of targeted alpha therapies while leveraging QSA Global’s experience in managing the lifecycle of radium-226 materials.
