Quotient Sciences, a global integrated contract research, development and manufacturing organization (CRDMO), and Copenhagen-based biotech company Acesion Pharma have announced a collaboration focused on formulation development for Acesion’s early-stage small-molecule pipeline targeting atrial fibrillation.
Under the collaboration, Quotient Sciences will apply active machine learning and Bayesian optimization through its AI-enhanced formulation development solution. The companies said the approach is intended to help identify and prioritize drug products with a higher likelihood of clinical success and enable earlier development decisions.
The solution will be applied within Quotient Sciences’ Translational Pharmaceutics® platform, which integrates drug product formulation and clinical activities. The companies said the AI-enhanced approach allows development teams to analyze data and predict formulation performance earlier, with the aim of shortening development timelines and focusing development activities on drug product candidates with the highest chances of clinical success.
Acesion’s pipeline includes small molecules targeting atrial fibrillation, which the release describes as the world’s most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia. The release states that atrial fibrillation affects an estimated 50–60 million people globally and is associated with an approximately five-fold increased risk of stroke.
