SCHOTT Pharma Invests Over $60M in U.S. Glass Vial Manufacturing Expansion

COMPANY PROFILE
  • SCHOTT Pharma has inaugurated new production lines for standard and sterile ready-to-use glass vials at its Lebanon, Pennsylvania facility following an investment of more than $60 million.
  • The expansion, largely funded by BARDA, increases capacity for pharmaceutical packaging used in biologics, vaccines, emergency medications, and other injectable therapies.

SCHOTT Pharma has inaugurated new production lines for standard and sterile ready-to-use (RTU) glass vials at its facility in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. The expansion follows an investment of more than $60 million, largely funded by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), and is intended to strengthen domestic pharmaceutical packaging capacity in the United States.

The new manufacturing capabilities include production lines for both standard borosilicate glass vials and high-value vial solutions used to store biologics, vaccines, emergency medications, and other injectable therapies. According to the company, the expansion significantly increases annual production capacity for core vials while more than tripling local capacity for specialty packaging solutions.

The project included infrastructure modernization, installation of new converting lines, and capacity expansion for SCHOTT Pharma’s adaptiQ® ready-to-use vial platform and EVERIC® pure vials. The Lebanon facility is the only SCHOTT Pharma site producing adaptiQ® pre-washed, pre-sterilized RTU vials and one of only two company sites worldwide capable of manufacturing EVERIC® pure vials.

“The expansion contributes to SCHOTT Pharma’s long-term global growth strategy, with a strong local-for-local presence in the U.S. and scaled manufacturing capacity for high-value solutions that address key trends in the pharmaceutical industry, such as biologic medications and novel drug formulations.”

Christian Mias, Chief Executive Officer of SCHOTT Pharma

The company said the expanded capacity supports growing demand for pharmaceutical packaging used in biologics, biosimilars, vaccines, emergency medicines, and lyophilized therapies, including antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). SCHOTT Pharma also noted that ready-to-use vial formats support pharmaceutical manufacturers and contract manufacturing organizations by enabling more efficient filling operations and streamlined regulatory compliance.
