Sharp Services Invests $20M in US Autoinjector and Pen Assembly Lines

COMPANY PROFILE
  • Sharp Services will invest $20 million to expand autoinjector and pen assembly, labelling, and packaging at its Macungie, Pennsylvania site.
  • Two new production lines will be fully operational in the first half of 2027, supporting both clinical and commercial programmes.

Sharp Services, a pharmaceutical packaging, clinical trial services and sterile manufacturing provider, has announced a $20 million investment at its Macungie, Pennsylvania facility. The funding will expand the company’s autoinjector and pen assembly, labelling, and packaging capabilities.

The Macungie site will add two autoinjector assembly lines. One will be a low-speed, semi-manual line capable of assembling two devices per minute, designed for custom and non-custom pens and autoinjectors. The other will be a mid-speed line producing 50–70 devices per minute, with inline labelling and cartoning, supporting both Ypsomed’s YpsoMate® and SHL Medical’s Molly® devices. The new lines are expected to be operational in the first half of 2027.

Jeff Benedict, Chief Commercial Officer of Sharp, said: “Pharma organizations are increasingly choosing injectables in advanced delivery systems that ensure reliable and safe drug administration, especially in critical or emergency scenarios.” He added that demand for obesity management products and sustainable solutions has driven innovation in this sector.

The autoinjectors and pens manufactured at the site will be used across emergency, chronic, and specialty conditions. The investment follows Sharp’s implementation of autoinjector assembly capabilities at its Hamont-Achel facility in Belgium, broadening the company’s ability to serve the global market.

With nine GMP facilities across the US, UK and Europe, Sharp provides integrated solutions in sterile manufacturing, contract packaging, and clinical trial services. The expansion at Macungie aligns with Sharp’s strategy to meet growing market demand for advanced injectable delivery systems.
