- Shilpa Medicare will launch Shilpa CDMO at CPHI Milan next month as a separate business focused on end-to-end development and manufacturing of complex small molecules.

Shilpa Medicare is launching a dedicated contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), Shilpa CDMO, next month at CPHI Milan. The new entity will operate separately from Shilpa Medicare and provide end-to-end development and manufacturing services for complex small molecules for biotech and pharmaceutical customers.
Shilpa CDMO will focus on complex molecule development, with capabilities covering discovery and route scouting, process and analytical development, and commercial drug-substance and finished-dose manufacturing. The company said the business will bring dedicated R&D teams for HPAPIs and oncology, peptides, ADC payloads and linkers, oligonucleotides and PROTACs. Its existing platform includes 230 kL of reactor capacity, three R&D centres, more than 400 scientists and two dedicated API manufacturing sites.

The company said it has seen increased interest from US and European biotech companies seeking to diversify their development and manufacturing strategies beyond China. Yagnesh Solanki, Director – CDMO at Shilpa CDMO, said: “Available capacity is not the same as capable capacity.” The new business will also be located within 200 miles of sister company Shilpa Biologicals, which provides antibody production, conjugation and fill-finish. According to the company, the proximity is intended to simplify supply chains for ADC and conjugate programmes by reducing the need for intercontinental shipment of intermediates.
The launch follows Shilpa Medicare’s May announcement of a long-term development and commercial manufacturing agreement with NXI Therapeutics AG. Shilpa CDMO said it will provide further details on its commercial-scale peptide manufacturing capabilities at CPHI Milan.
