SK pharmteco Launches Catalyst Kit for Continuous API Manufacturing

COMPANY PROFILE
  • SK pharmteco has launched its Catalyst Kit, a three-stage program designed to support pharmaceutical and biotech companies from catalyst screening through optimized, commercial-scale continuous catalytic processes.
  • The program provides 12 catalyst samples and technical support for continuous fixed-bed reactor (FBR) development, with applications across registered starting materials (RSMs), intermediates, and APIs.

SK pharmteco has launched the SK pharmteco Catalyst Kit, a structured program designed to guide pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies from initial catalyst screening through optimized, commercial-scale continuous catalytic processes. The program is built around three stages: “Screen to Identify,” “Optimize to Perform,” and “Scale with Confidence.”

The first stage provides 12 catalysts as 10-gram samples for development teams to assess whether a reaction could benefit from continuous catalytic processing. The screening generates comparative data across metals, supports and activation requirements to identify potential candidates for continuous fixed-bed reactor (FBR) optimization. In the second stage, SK pharmteco works with clients to optimize catalyst composition, active-metal distribution, support interactions and process variables including temperature, pressure, residence time and loading.

The final stage transfers optimized process conditions from laboratory development through kilo, mini-pilot, pilot and full-scale GMP commercial manufacturing. SK pharmteco said the Catalyst Kit can identify candidates for catalytic reactions used in registered starting materials, intermediates and APIs, while its technical team supports further process optimization.

The program combines SK pharmteco’s in-house catalyst manufacturing capabilities with continuous FBR technology. According to the company, the approach can support high-pressure and high-temperature catalytic reactions, including hydrogenation, from gram-scale development through multi-ton commercial production. The company cited lower catalyst consumption, simplified work-up, longer catalyst life, reduced solvent waste, solvent recovery and reuse, continuous monitoring and predictable scale-up among the potential advantages of continuous catalytic flow processing.

“Screening identifies what could work, optimization determines what will work, and scale-up confirms the path to manufacturing. The SK pharmteco Catalyst Kit provides our partners with a structured starting point, backed by deep technical expertise, enabling drug developers to rapidly bring scalable, high-quality APIs, intermediates, and RSMs to market.”
