ESTEVE CDMO, the contract development and manufacturing organization of ESTEVE, is investing more than $80 million to relocate, expand, and modernize its operations in Shaoxing, China. The project strengthens the company’s manufacturing capabilities in Asia and forms part of its global manufacturing network serving pharmaceutical customers.

The new facility comprises three manufacturing workshops with a combined reaction volume of 250 m³. More than 150 m³ of additional reaction volume is reserved for future development, allowing total capacity to exceed 400 m³ as manufacturing needs evolve. The site is designed to increase production capacity, incorporate advanced technologies, and provide flexibility for future growth.

ESTEVE has operated in China since 2000, when it established its first joint venture in the country. The company’s Chinese operations complement its manufacturing network across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Its global technology platform includes spray drying and highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredient (HPAPI) manufacturing, supporting small-molecule API development and production for customers in China, other Asian markets, and internationally.

“The investment would bring the company’s capabilities closer to customers in Asia while strengthening its global manufacturing platform. The company said the expanded operations will support pharmaceutical partners’ long-term manufacturing requirements.”

Joan Petit, president of ESTEVE CDMO

Environmental, health, and safety considerations are incorporated into the facility’s design and operation. The site has received a “Very Good” BREEAM rating for its sustainability performance and responsible design and operation. The project has also been selected as a candidate for the BREEAM China Awards, supporting ESTEVE’s broader focus on social and environmental performance and responsible business practices.
