Description
AKEURA was launched as a unified brand on 2 November 2026. It is the new name of P95 Julius Clinical, which resulted from the 2025 merger of P95 and Julius Clinical. The company reports more than 25 years of combined experience and is headquartered in Zeist, the Netherlands. It also has offices in Rotterdam and in Durham, North Carolina, and lists operations in Austria, South Africa, and Belgium. It is backed by the private equity firm Ampersand Capital Partners, and its leadership includes Bassem Saleh (Chief Executive Officer) and Daniel Spasic (Executive Chairman).
The company’s defining position is its pairing of clinical development and RWE in a single organisation. It states that it has more than 500 researchers, clinicians, and scientists across five continents, and has delivered more than 1,000 studies (over 600 clinical and about 400 RWE projects) in more than 75 countries. It also reports upward of 700,000 participants across more than 5,000 sites, ranging from pivotal therapeutic studies to population-scale vaccine research. These are company-reported figures. AKEURA highlights more than 25 years of work in Africa, supported by specialised site networks.
Its delivery model matches specialists to each study, with senior experts who stay hands-on and practising physicians and key opinion leaders embedded in its teams and advisory networks. Recent programme milestones include the first FDA protocol milestone in The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s Path to Prevention platform trial and the GRIPonMASH consortium passing 5,000 enrolled participants. The company also publishes a rescue study framework (a 30/60/90-day plan for stalled studies) and an Ebola trial white paper.
Key Products and Services
Early Phase Clinical Development
- Clinical development from first dose through to proof of concept, covering study design and delivery for early-stage programmes
Late Phase Clinical Development
- Phase IIb to Phase IV trials at scale, designed to carry programmes through approval and beyond
- Study rescue and CRO transition support for studies facing enrolment shortfalls, start-up delays, or resource gaps
Real-World Evidence
- Regulatory-grade post-approval safety and effectiveness studies led by RWE specialists
- Epidemiology and biostatistics expertise, particularly in vaccines and infectious diseases
Therapeutic Expertise
- Neuroscience — more than 140 studies, covering CNS indications with experience in endpoints, raters, and sites
- Infectious diseases and vaccines — more than 400 studies, covering respiratory and tropical infections, antimicrobial resistance, and global vaccine studies
- Cardiometabolic diseases — more than 100 studies, covering event-driven outcomes trials and hard-to-recruit metabolic indications such as obesity, diabetes, MASH, and lipid disorders
AKEURA occupies a focused mid-sized position in the CRO market. It limits itself to three therapeutic areas, which contrasts with generalist CROs that spread coverage across many indications. Its integration of clinical trials and RWE addresses regulators’ growing use of real-world data across the product lifecycle and lets sponsors plan evidence generation from first dose to post-approval within one provider. Its long African operating experience and vaccine and infectious disease depth are notable strengths for outbreak and global health studies. As a newly rebranded entity, its integration is recent, and its metrics are self-reported. Private equity ownership suggests a growth and further consolidation trajectory.
