Aenova to Launch 6,500m³ Cold Chain Facility at Latina Site by 2026

  • Aenova is constructing a 6,500m³ fully automated cold chain warehouse at its sterile manufacturing site in Latina, Italy, set to be operational in early 2026.
  • The facility includes 1,300 pallet spaces and advanced digital and refrigeration systems to support biologics and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products.

Aenova has announced the construction of a new cold chain warehouse at its sterile manufacturing site in Latina, Italy, advancing its strategy to deliver integrated, end-to-end supply chain solutions for biologics and other temperature-sensitive medicines. The facility is expected to be fully operational and meet regulatory requirements by the first quarter of 2026.

The new 6,500 cubic metre warehouse will accommodate 1,300 pallet spaces, with additional capacity for packing, shipping, and final product preparation. Designed to maintain a temperature range of 2–8°C, the facility includes continuous monitoring via a SCADA system to ensure full cGMP compliance. A dedicated freezer area for drug substances adds to its versatility.

A key feature of the expansion is its automation. An integrated digital system will handle pallet tracking and movement, supported by Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and digital time-of-refrigerator (TOR) records. The dual refrigeration systems are designed to provide uninterrupted operation, while energy-efficient technologies contribute to Aenova’s sustainability goals.

“This expansion significantly enhances our biologics and sterile drug product offering,” said Paolo Abbate, Managing Director at the Aenova site in Latina. “By integrating cold chain storage directly into our manufacturing site, we can now offer our customers secure and streamlined logistics; this is a real competitive advantage in terms of speed, reliability, and compliance.”

The facility is designed to handle a broad range of cold chain products globally, without requiring specific adaptations for different APIs or country regulations. This development supports Aenova’s growth in biologics and underpins future expansion plans, including a new fill & finish line at the Latina site.
